Happy Hearts Character Development Program
At Primrose Schools, our Balanced Learning curriculum infuses social-emotional and character development lessons through imaginative play with the Primrose Friends – 12 engaging classroom puppets that help foster compassion, creativity, gratitude, and honesty in children.
Knowing the brain develops more rapidly during the first five years than any other point in a person’s life, this purposeful approach to play helps young children learn and retain valuable lessons, providing early learning experiences that are an important foundation to a child’s quality of life and future success.
More than a Curriculum
Balanced Learning is research-informed and combines the best thinking of renowned early learning philosophers like Montessori, Piaget, Gesell and Vygotsky along with modern wisdom from the latest child development studies. Research shows that introducing a skill when a child is truly ready leads to mastery instead of frustration. Then, building on that skill to learn the next one comes naturally. And learning becomes just so much fun! Before you know it, you have a confident child who loves learning.
We know, in addition to reading, writing, and math skills, there are skills that we need to be successful in life. Dr. Laura Jana, a pediatrician, has made it easy for us to relate to these skills by grouping them into seven categories using common, easy-to-understand terms (ME, WE, WHY, WILL, WIGGLE, WOBBLE, and WHAT IF). She calls these skills QI skills spelled (Q-I). The term QI skills is easy to remember because it sounds like K-E-Y meaning important and can be considered the complement to IQ skills or what are traditionally known as academic or cognitive skills. It’s important to know that these skills can and should be modeled and taught starting at birth. For this reason, the seven QI skills are the foundation of our new Harmony & Heart program.
