You must fully complete and sign the Parental Authorization for Medication form before any medication is administered. This form is available at the the front desk.
Provide a signed authorization, including administration and dosage procedures of each medication staff will administer.
List any potential adverse reaction to the medication on the authorization so the staff can properly monitor your child and notify you accordingly.
List the specific date(s) staff should administer the medication.
Medications will be given only if the prescription label includes the doctor’s name, the child’s name, and dosage instructions. Only School Leadership Team members can administer medications, including over-the-counter ones, which require a written prescription. Medications must be dropped off and picked up daily at the front desk and are stored in a locked cabinet.
Diaper cream, sunscreen, and insect repellent can be given to the teacher with specific authorization. Medications are usually administered after lunch. For special circumstances or chronic conditions, discuss with the School Leadership Team. Medications are typically given once daily unless otherwise directed by a physician.
All school staff are required to be CPR and First Aid certified within 30 days of employment and prior to placement in a classroom with children, unless another certified staff member is also present. All staff members must maintain this certification throughout their employment.
A "Signs of Illness" placard is posted in each classroom, detailing common conditions and signs of illnesses that require immediate parental notification. Children showing signs of illness requiring parent pickup will be removed from the classroom and kept in the front office until picked up. When picking up a sick child, parents will receive a Statement of Illness form, which may include requirements such as a doctor's certification before the child can return to school. Children exposed to communicable diseases cannot return to school until they are no longer contagious and may need a physician's certification. Additionally, children must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication and show no signs of illness before returning. Efforts will be made to notify parents if a child is unwell but can still remain at school. In a medical emergency, 911 may be contacted, and EMTs may transport the child to a medical facility, with parents responsible for payment of medical services.
School Leadership Team posts a Notice of Medical Concern at the classroom door or communicates it to inform about existing cases of specific diseases or medical concerns. Parents should notify a member of the School Leadership Team if their child is exposed to or contracts an infectious disease.
Child's name will not be released in conjunction with the notice.
When your child experiences moderate discomfort like scrapes, bumps, or bruises, the teacher fills out a report detailing the incident and actions taken. A School Leadership Team member reviews the report and calls you. You sign the report at pickup, receive a copy, and another copy is kept in your child’s school file. For injuries requiring professional medical treatment beyond basic first aid, an Accident Report is completed by a School Leadership Team member and staff. Both you and the Leadership Team member sign and date the form, keeping a copy each.
The School Leadership Team monitors local weather advisories and uses the Child Care Weather Watch chart to ensure safe outdoor play. School staff follow state guidelines for applying sunscreen. If you want teachers to apply sunscreen, you must sign the Permission to Apply Sunscreen section of the enrollment form. Provide labeled sunscreen to the teacher, who will store it in a locked cabinet. Do not leave sunscreen in your child's bag.
The School Leadership Team adheres to state guidelines for applying insect repellent to children. If you want teachers to apply it, you must complete an Authorization for Medication form. Provide labeled insect repellent to the teacher, who will store it in a locked cabinet. Do not leave it in your child's bag.
The method of swaddling a baby in a tight blanket is not used based on recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. If swaddling is requested, a physician’s directive is necessary.
All staff and ancillary vendors are required to pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, prior to interacting with children. A school staff member is always present when an ancillary vendor is interacting with students.
In an emergency situation in which the school campus becomes unsafe, the staff will evacuate the children to a designated emergency location. The emergency location is posted in the school’s reception area. In the event the school is evacuated, staff members will attempt to contact the parent or guardian of each child. If the staff cannot reach each child’s parent or guardian, they will make every attempt to reach the designated emergency contact as listed on the Enrollment Application and Agreement.
The School Leadership Team and staff prioritize a healthy, safe, and secure learning environment. The school's Safe School Plan includes guidelines for safety measures and emergency preparedness, explained during parent orientation. Safety features include a fire and smoke monitoring system, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, a security lock on the entrance door, and safety shades on classroom doors. Upon enrollment, you receive an entry code for the entrance door. Monthly and quarterly drills for emergencies like fire, tornado, earthquake, and lockdowns are conducted, with records kept in the school's office.
The playground extends the classroom, offering a unique learning environment. Outdoor play benefits children by promoting physical activity and vitamin D production. State licensing regulations mandate daily outdoor play, weather permitting, with playtime scheduled at least twice a day. Schools without outdoor playgrounds provide indoor recreation areas or access to safe, supervised walking paths or parks. Children are closely supervised during play and transit. Playgrounds feature age-appropriate equipment and undergo annual inspections by Certified Playground Safety Inspectors, with monthly inspections by the School Leadership Team.
Secure your personal belongings when leaving your vehicle unattended in the school parking lot or take them inside with you. Please be aware of and report any suspicious behavior to the School Leadership Team. Due to risks of vehicular heat stroke, abduction, or a child putting the car into motion, children should never be left unattended in a car.
