Price Reading Council was established in 2003 in honor of Uberto Price, Appalachian State University professor from 1955 to 1982, who passed away in 2002.
Price was a nationally recognized reading expert whose extensive work in the region with teachers and children earned him the nickname “Mr. Reading in North Carolina.” Price’s vision was to prepare the very best teachers of reading “I can’t imagine a world without books or children who can’t read. Teach them to read and give them books, “ he said.
The annual Price Reading and Language Arts Symposium sponsored by the Reading and Language Arts Program at ASU is also named for Price.
