Synopsis

In the year 2067, on the remote fringes of the galaxy, a mysterious medical phenomenon known as the "Var Syndrome" is driving humans and aliens alike into fits of uncontrollable, violent madness. To combat this threat, the tactical sound unit Walküre—a group of talented young women who can suppress the symptoms through the power of song—operates alongside the Delta Flight, an elite squadron of Valkyrie pilots. The story follows Hayate Immelmann, a blunt and aimless wanderer with a natural gift for flying, and Freyja Wion, a girl from the wind-swept planet Windermere who dreams of joining Walküre. After a chance encounter, the two join the private military company Chaos. However, their efforts are complicated by the Aerial Knights, a rival Valkyrie team from the Kingdom of the Wind who use their own "Song of the Wind" to control the Var and declare war on the New United Government. Amidst high-speed dogfights and intergalactic concerts, Hayate and Freyja must navigate their feelings for each other while uncovering the secrets of the ancient Protoculture.

Macross Δ is a 2016 television anime produced by Big West, Studio Nue, and Satelight and animated by Satelight (Symphogear, Macross Frontier). The show was directed by Shōji Kawamori (Vision of Escaflowne, Genesis of Aquarion) as Chief Director, with Kenji Yasuda (Arata: The Legend) serving as Director. The series composition and scripts were handled by Toshizo Nemoto (Log Horizon, Steins;Gate). Original character designs were provided by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), and these were adapted for the anime by Majiro and Yuu Shindo. The music composition was handled by a collaborative team including Saeco Suzuki, TOMISIRO, and Mina Kubota, with music production by FlyingDog.
