Medication Range Dosing

When prescribers order medications with ranged dosing, system restrictions such as decision supports and Pyxis(on-unit med dispensing system) are affected. This causes delays, issues, for nurses, and requires additional pharmacy resources. 

• This was not an issue at FMC, due to the proximity of the pharmacy, and because there was no Pyxis. 

• Dose range requests should be handled through two separate (but linked) orders.
