This section is where I share photos and videos of living things we have studied (or are studying). They are beautiful, awe-inspiring testimonies of God's incredible handiwork! There are also interesting resources here that address important topics in biology. I hope you all enjoy these as much as I do.
The manner by which the genetic material is packaged in a cell is nothing short of incredible. The following video from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project helps us visualize how the molecules that make up life, like the DNA, work in a precise and creatively engineered fashion within the confines of microscopic cells.
The next video, also from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project, showcases one of nature's architectural marvels, the spider web! Watch how its builder weaves its web with great precision and admirable technique!
SPIDER MAN, MOVE OVER! HERE COME THE SPIDER GOATS!!! The following video is rather old but is still a good introduction to transgenic goats carrying spider silk protein in their milk:
I am so excited to see wildflowers everywhere this time of the year! The following are a few Texas wildflowers at Lake Somerville State Park (April 9-10, 2022). Working on identifying all of these soon!
Texas Baby Blue Eyes
Shrubby Water Primrose
Blackberry
White Prickly Poppy
Giant Spiderwort
Texas Dandelion
Fleabane Daisy
Golden Groundsel
Texas Bluebonnets!
The following four videos are from Illustra Media's John10:10 Project. These focus on the brilliantly designed and exquisitely engineered structures of plants that assure the perpetuation of their species from generation to generation.
The video directly below is from Illustra Media's John10:10 Project on the story of salmon migration, depicting the mechanisms that allow salmon to return to the place where they were born and hatched. The following video is on the metamorphosis of a butterfly, showing fascinating cellular changes that lead to the intricate transformation of one form of this living creature to another! A related video entitled God is in the Details focuses on the intricate parts of the butterfly anatomy. One cannot help but be amazed at the creativity, wisdom, and precision that went into the design of these beautiful creatures. All from Illustra Media's John10:10 Project.
The following video is another one from Illustra Media's John10:10. An Ode to Animals! What a sight to see the diversity of animal life from the hands of our Creator!
Here's another one from Illustra Media on the evidence of intelligent design, not as the product of random chance, displayed in the majestic anatomy of a humpback whale.
Next up are four videos on birds. First, The Genius of Flight explores the multiple, artistically engineered biological systems which allow birds to enjoy the wide expanse of the skies, as they cover small distances or cross vast oceans and continents. The second, called Birds of the Sun, highlights the incredible ability of the arctic tern to migrate over the great distances, more than any other known living creature. The third video (The Cleansing Breeze) highlights how the incredibly designed but often misunderstood vultures serve a crucial role in maintaining the health and balance in an ecosystem. The fourth video (Very Cool Birds) shows the incredible design of emperor penguins that allow them to endure the most punishing frigid climate on the planet.Credit once again goes to Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project.
The following features philosopher of science, Dr. Stephen Meyer of the Discovery Institute in a short summary of past and current challenges to Darwinian evolution. Video produced by Prager University.
This video is from a series called Secrets of the Cell by biochemist and author Dr. Michael Behe. Here he shows how a system like the body's blood clotting system is irreducibly complex and a product of design, not chance mutations.
This next video, another offering from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project showcases how beauty, symmetry, and design in the natural world could not be explained by random mutations that generally produce chaos and disorder. Even Darwin couldn't!
The following video from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project discusses one of the greatest questions in biology: How did life on earth begin? Watch how scientists explore the mathematical improbabilities of producing proteins necessary for life using currently held materialist explanations.
The following series of videos from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project is based on material from Lee Strobel's book, The Case for a Creator. Strobel, an award-winning journalist and former atheist, explored evidences obtained from his research in cosmology, astronomy, geology, and biology to show how the universe, and specifically the earth, and all life within it, could only have come from an intelligent and creative God.
In the video below from Discovery Science featuring Drs. Stephen Meyer and Douglas Axe, the question of source of information that gave rise to the sudden appearance of diverse life forms in the fossil record, is posed. Be aware of references to the age of the earth dating millions of years. The second video from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project explores the a current view of how the first life could have started and the staggering improbability of a single functional protein to assemble by random chance alone.
The following videos from Illustra Media's John 10:10 Project continue to showcase God's incredible design of life, this time as evidenced by the human anatomy.
The pictures below of shelf mushrooms were taken in Steelville, MO (November, 2023); Picture of lichens on twigs collected around Centerville, TX (November 2021)
The following pictures of mushrooms and fall leaves were taken during a series of hikes in the woods of Vermont (October, 2021).
