Caseggiato degli Aurighi
The House of the Charioteers borders on the south side on the Cardo degli Aurighi (Street of the Charioteers), on the west side on the Via Tecta (a covered road, spanned by large arches), on the east side on the Shrine of the Three Naves (III,II,12), and on the north side on the Baths of the Seven Sages (III,X,2). It forms an entity with the latter building and the House of Serapis (III,X,3), further to the north. It was the last of these three buildings to be erected, during the first years of the reign of Antoninus Pius (c. 140 AD), thirteen to fourteen years after the construction of block III,X had begun. Baths of the Seven sages
The Baths of the Seven Sages form an entity with the House of the Charioteers and the House of Serapis (III,X,1 and 3). These two buildings are to the north and south of the baths, that are therefore not directly accessible from a main street. Vestibule 2, with benches, was reached from the House of Serapis. Our team analyzed Walls in Room 28 and Room 30 with XRF and VIL to determine the pigments used in the fresco paintings.

Sarah Burry is a dual-degree master’s candidate in Library Science and History of Art and Design. She graduated from Bennington College in 2020 with a degree in Renaissance History and Literature. A lover of Euripides and honorary member of the cult of Antinous, she is currently completing an independent study focused on ancient Roman wall paintings. In 1999 her older sister told her to touch an ancient Egyptian statue at the Met, and, though scolded by museum staff, this incident sparked a love for history that will be fostered at Ostia Antica.

Master's in Design Management, BFA in Industrial Design
Hi this is Stephanie, I graduated with an industrial design BFA in 2020 and is now studying Design Management at Pratt Institute. I am very excited to go back to Ostia while working with these amazing people! As a graduate student in design management, going back to Ostia will be an invaluable experience to me, both to further my learning in artist materials and help me with improving my management skills and leadership skills, since I will be working with a lot of different people from different backgrounds. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to continue my research in Ostia.

BFA in History of Art and Design
Malena Ramsey is a senior History of Art and Design major at Pratt. She is working in Ostia because of a long-time love of ancient worlds and Roman Archaeology. As a child, Malena was a textbook mythology nerd, and that has stuck into adulthood. She is currently hoping to pursue a graduate degree in Archaeological Science, and through the Ostia project she is able to work alongside professionals in the field.
