I have made a sculpture inspired by a traditional stick figure painting called Warli paintings which are prominent in parts of Western India. The Warli tribals practiced this form of painting to adorn the walls of their dwelling. The paintings were on a red clay background with white pigments. I have also uploaded the inspiration image in this post.

The Sculpture itself is composed of geometric forms. I really enjoyed creating the texture and adding contrasting colors to bring the authenticity of the traditional art form.

I used a recent selfie to do the self portrait- observational drawing. After taking pictures of the work I thought I could create a twist with the foreground and the background instead of just painting the portrait itself, for the self-portrait painting exercise. 

Over the past few weeks I’ve been working continuously with the local arts council and have had the opportunity to share my art with a larger audience. My self portrait reflect that emotion through a colourful backdrop and the overlapping mandalas and traditional art in the foreground. 

The media I’ve used are watercolours with pen and ink on mixed media paper.
