Welcome! I am a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in the Math Department at Johns Hopkins University.
This year I am teaching the calculus sequence for students in the biological and social sciences and working on a project studying the experiences of students who end up needing to retake early gateway math courses at Hopkins.
Before coming to Hopkins, I completed my PhD in mathematics at Cornell University. My thesis, Finite Groups, Polymatroids, and Error Correcting Codes, was advised by Ed Swartz. Before grad school, I attended Swarthmore College where I received a BA with high honors in math and physics.
I am especially excited about teaching undergraduates at the start of their mathematical journey. I strive my classroom and math communities places where everyone feels supported and has the resources and structures they need to succeed. I care deeply about expanding access to mathematics to as many people as possible and to helping others see themselves as capable of doing mathematics. This has lead to my involvement in a number of outreach and service activities over the years.
Outside of math, I enjoy dancing, fiber arts, board games, puzzles, and spending time with my partner and our two cats!
The best way to contact me is by email. Johns Hopkins emails have the format JHED ID @ jh . edu. My JHED ID is pwentwo2.
