Contemporary Philosophy Essay Contest
Classic 50 is a general education activity for the pioneers of higher education in Yuan Ze University. In recent years, Yuan Ze University’s general education courses have focused on classic reading activities to deepen general education at all levels through classic reading. This year, Yuan Ze Classic 50 Essay Contest encourages students to discuss practical issues with the two concepts of "Social Contract" or "Social Reform". The philosopher Rousseau's The Folk Treatise and Tolstoy's War and Peace were chosen as readings for this competition.

You are welcome to submit your essays based on these two assigned books,
but only YZU students will be awarded.
Aims of the Contest
Understanding the concept of Social Contract theory and Soial Reform have further critical thinking about the Practical Philosophy.
Widen interest in practical philosophy at university level among students who would not otherwise be exposed to the subject.
Recognize achievements of high-caliber students.
Encourage ambitious and talented students for further practical philosophy studying.

Interested authors should format their papers according to the Regulations of the Competition.

Acceptance Confirmation
All submissions will receive the confirmation of reception. The notification of acceptance will be sent to each author individually via the email that the participant registers.

Number of Participants
Participants could register in groups or individuals.
Paper Format
Papers should include Name of the Participant, student ID, E-mail address, Name of Department, Name of the University.
Minimum 1 page, maximum 10 pages.

List of References and List of Abbreviations shall also be submitted along-with the written submissions.
Any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification of the essay.
Judging Criteria
The following criteria might be used to evaluate the documents:
• Content – Originality
• Understanding of Assigned Books
• Critical perspective
• Clarity
• Structure
As long as the content preserves its clarity and consistency, linguistic quality will not be a decisive factor.
