Special Services at PPS

Our teachers are hard at work developing meaningful and engaging activities for your student. You should have already received information about the Zoom Class Meeting sessions with your child's regular classroom teacher.

Many of our students receive additional services throughout the school week including pull-out special education classes, speech-language therapy sessions, reading intervention with a reading specialist or interventionist, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. The various departments in special services will be providing supplemental resources for students and parents to access.

In addition, these professionals will hold regular office hours for parents to schedule a meeting or "session" for assistance. In some cases, your student may be invited to a small-group Zoom session by their related service provider. By accessing the group zoom session link, you are providing permission for your student to take part in the session with the understanding that other students will also be in that session.

If for confidentiality reasons, you DO NOT want your child to participate in virtual group sessions, please complete this form.

A MESSAGE FROM KILEY RIOS, PIEDMONT SCHOOLS DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES

This message is intended for families of students with an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or students with a 504 Plan through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

We sincerely hope you and your family are doing well during this difficult and uncertain time. We understand the strain that all families are feeling, especially those families who have students with special needs. The Piedmont Schools Special Services Department is working in conjunction with the Oklahoma State Department of Education and our federal special education partners to develop a plan that will help support students with an IEP or a 504 Plan as we transition to a distance learning model.

Distance Learning for Special Education

The Special Education Department is navigating this new normal and working to adapt to complement the needs of our students. If you have any questions regarding expectations for your student and/or need accommodations, please contact your current Special Education Teacher of Record.

Related Services

Our Related Services team is working diligently to create content, instruction, and support for students during this time. You will be contacted by your student's provider with more information regarding how they will proceed with their services. Related services include Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy.

IEPs and 504s

We have many students whose IEPs or 504s are nearing the end of their calendar year timeline, which requires a subsequent IEP submission. If your student falls into this category, you will be contacted by a designee from your student's school site to complete the necessary actions.

You may be unaware of your child’s IEP/504 due date, that is not a problem and no action is required on your part. The PPS Special Services Department is available to assist with questions or concerns.

Evaluations

Evaluations are student-specific. A school Psychologist or Psychometrist will contact families who have signed consent for initial evaluations, FBAs, or other situations regarding formal evaluations. This also includes students who are currently on an IEP and whose re-evaluation dates are approaching.

If your child is currently on an IEP or 504 plan and you need immediate assistance, please contact Kiley Rios, Director of Special Services at kiley.rios@piedmontschools.org.
