Software Technology

In the wold of high-performance computing (HPC), the emphasis has traditionally been on the hardware and the performance that hardware can provide. However, that performance is useless if researchers can't easily put it to use, or the software is not optimized for the hardware. The mission of the Software Technology Division is provide a software environment that is both easy-to-use and optimized for the PPPL clusters.

The Software Technology Division aims to accomplish this goal through a multi-pronged approach:

  • Fine-tune the operating system on the cluster for performance

  • Provide optimized versions of the libraries that our researcher build their applications on

  • Provide documentation on how to use our resources effectively

  • Provide training on both Cluster usage and basic Linux usage to enable our users as much as possible.
