Pegah completed her PhD with Dr. Katherine Cianflone at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute - Laval University, where she studied the immunometabolic role of the complement system in obesity. She then joined the CRCHUM and the University of Montreal as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where she investigated the role of a newly identified lipase, α/β-hydrolase domain-6 (ABHD6), in fat metabolism, inflammation, and thermogenesis, as well as its therapeutic implications in metabolic syndrome, in the lab of Prof. Marc Prentki. Pegah joined Dalhousie University as an Assistant Professor in September 2025. Outside the lab, she enjoys spending time with her family, painting, drawing, traveling, and exploring authentic foods and cultures.

Zakia is a third-year Biochemistry and Molecular Biology co-op student at Dalhousie University. She is originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. She completed her first co-op term as a Research Scientist Co-op Student, which really helped her discover her passion for research. She hopes to pursue a career in clinical research and contribute to improving health care through science. Outside of academics, she works as a Campus Engagement Assistant with Together@Dal, so she can often be found organizing fun events around campus. She also has two spoiled and chonky cats who do wonders for her mental health. She loves the ocean and absolutely enjoys summers in Halifax.

Megan is in her third year of a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology degree at Dalhousie University. Some of her interests include reading, travelling, and spending as much time as possible with her dog! She is excited to be working with Dr. Poursharifi and hopes to gain lots of valuable experience this year in her lab.
