2023 Event

2023 Race Report

On Sunday 13th August 2023 the Port Glasgow 10k returned for the 4th time since it's inception in 2018.

The race was started by Race Director and local Councillor, Chris Curley who set 244 runners on their way through the scenic route.   There were some small changes to route this year.  With the course officially measured it was set to provide a fast and flat route for entrants seeking their Personal Best times.

2023 Provided a record number of entries with all 300 places being snapped up prior to the big day. 33 different clubs from a across the country were represented on the day. 55 percent of runners  were not affiliated with a club. Being a community 10k we take pride in seeing people from all backgrounds taking part in the event.

Male winners

First across the line was Edinburgh Athletics Club athlete, Max Meres who finished in a fantastic time of 34 minutes and 14 seconds. Max was presented with the Jim MacLeod trophy by President of Greenock Glenpark Harriers, Andy McCall.  Sadly we learned that Jim passed away on the day of the race. Jim was a former Councillor for Port Glasgow and well known to many within Inverclyde. Jim was excited by the idea of the 10k race back in 2018 which prompted him to sponsor the fastest male trophy. The runner up spot went to Andrew Osbourne with Andy McCall taking 3rd place, both from local club Greenock Glenpark Harriers.

Female winners

The quickest female on the day was Emma Creasey from Ayr Seaforth Athletic Club who stormed across the line in 37 minutes and 23 seconds. 2022 race winner and current record holder, Nynke Mulholland, kindly presented Emma with the Riverside Inverclyde Trophy. Second female across the line was Edinburgh AC athlete Melissa Albarran with local veteran athlete and Greenock Glenpark Harrier Jill Cox taking 3rd.

Junior winners

Greenock Glenpark Harrier, Erin McEleny finished just ahead of club mate Evie Harrison to take the 1st junior female trophy. Erin won in a time of 55 minutes and 43 seconds. A very impressive time considering she competed in the Bute Highland Games the previous day. Well done to both junior girls.

There were no junior boys entered to take home the trophy for the 2nd year in a row.
