How many campsites do you have?
We currently have 4 camping sites. Two of these sites have structures and two are regular camping sites. Upon request, we can accommodate larger groups.
The "Owl's Nest" is a 12 x 14 foot canvas wall tent on a fixed raised platform. This tent has a queen sized bed; we provide the bedding. There is a canopy that extends over the tent and front deck with 2 comfortable Adirondack chairs.
The "Hummingbird Hideaway" is a Tree House. It is suitable for a weekend getaway for a couple or for families looking for something unique. There is a queen sized bed and day bed with trundle. Two comfortable cots will accommodate an additional two guests if needed. 6 guests maximum.
Woodchuck Acres is our larger camping site and is suitable for up to 3 large tents, 1-2 camper vans, 1-2 pop-ups or a small (up to 28') tag-a-long camper. Please note that we are off-grid and generators are not allowed. We do not have a place for you to dump your waste.
Chickadee Corner is a smaller camping site suitable for 1-2 tents.
Deer Run is a large field suitable for organized groups such as schools, camps, cycling tours.
Many campgrounds have little space between sites. Part of camping for us is feeling like we are out in the woods by ourselves.
We have planned our sites so there is plenty of space between you and your neighbors.
Do you have bugs?
Of course we do. This is Maine and you are in the woods. Given that insects make up the most biomass on our planet, it should be no surprise that we have our fair share. They are part of the food web for our birds. Honestly though, biting insect pests vary throughout the season and their activity is also based on the weather. There are black flies, ticks, mosquitos and deer flies. We do not spray for mosquitos as spraying kills all insects; annoying and beneficial.
Having said this, we do what we can. We have set deer fly traps to try to help with these pesky critters. We leave some of our fields un-mowed so that natural insect hunters like Dragonflies have places to perch. What methods we do employ, can't be at the risk of other non-nuisance species.
We would also strongly suggest you bring your favorite variety of bug spray or insect deterrent and check yourself regularly for ticks.
What is a working Tree Farm?
A Tree Farm is a sustainably managed forest where we "farm" (grow) trees. Over 89% of Maine is forested and Maine boasts the largest number of privately owned forests (like this one). You will not be surrounded by buzzing chainsaws or large equipment. Our forest was selectively cut about 10 years ago using a technique called "tractor logging". What takes place now is a seasonal firewood harvest for us as we partially heat our home with wood. And, dead and storm damaged trees feed our small sawmill. None of this will take place when you are here as we know you come here to enjoy the quiet.
Most of our current management is called TSI (timber stand improvement). We are trying to remove some invasive species and improve the diversity both of our animal and our tree population.
We have some small equipment on site and ask that you respect our property and treat this area as private.
You are welcome to walk the trails on our property when you are here.
Are there campfires allowed?
Yes. There are campfire pits and grills. Wood is included with your stay. Please note that flames over 2 feet tall do not constitute a campfire and put our forest at risk. In case of extremely dry weather, we reserve the right to limit fires. The reason should be apparent.
How can we get in touch with you, we have questions.
Please read FAQ's before contacting us. We usually check our email twice per day (less in the off season).
