The Bornean Orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus, is one of three species of Orangutans in the world. Of the three orangutan species, Bornean orangutans have the highest number of individuals, yet they are still critically endangered, with numbers barely reaching over one hundred thousand. An orangutan's habitat needs to be regularly protected; if the industrial "business as usual" trend persists, orangutans will go extinct, making several tree species disappear. They are intelligent, majestic creatures and our most distant relatives.
