Ruth E. Cole chaired Murray State's Department of Nursing from 1954 to 1977, building a popular new program. She was called to serve in the US Navy Nurse Corp during World War II and again during the Korean War soon after her hiring at the college. Cole was a legendary professor and administrator who was awarded “Nurse Educator of the Year.” She completed her doctorate in 1973, then became a Nursing Education professor at Harding University in Arkansas. Her last job before retiring was Program Director for the Murray-Calloway County Hospital Hospice Program.

Pictured are copies of partial floor plans of the Houston McDevitt Clinic-Hospital sent to Ruth E. Cole in a letter from Anna F. in August 2007. She told Ruth she could not remember the exact floor plans and hoped she could help.

The patient room on the first floor reminded Anna of her first time giving a bath to a patient she described as "yellow as gold with sores from top head to the bottom of her feet."
