Venture Concept

PocketLab combines multiple wireless sensor systems in a small handheld device and pairs this alongside its data recording and analysis apps. This provides educators an easy-to-use, all-in-one system for carrying our various Science experiments in the classroom. It addresses a paint point for many Science classrooms, the cost of lab equipment. Many current sensor equipment are single purpose, requiring multiple purchases to enable a larger range of Science exploration.

Marketability

The field of STEM continues to thrive and the lab equipment market is projected to grow to $55-63 billion by 2025 (5, 6). The PocketLab is a small portion of this market and its main appeal will be for educators. The current lab equipment market is often marketed towards industry and higher level research. PocketLab innovates in this space by providing a device that is more functional and approachable to young students and educators. As the Science curriculum also develops and grows around the world, there is likely to be more emphasis put on the development of lab skills and Scientific inquiry. This will likely mean the demand for this type of product will grow in the future.

PocketLab's biggest competitive edges are its cost and its all-in-one system. Traditional lab equipment is expensive and single purpose.

Venture Plan

A clear venture plan is not accessible, however PocketLab's mission and current products can give us a sense of their overall market strategy. First, their mission is to enable more people to discover and apply Science. Their market has grown to include over 60 different countries and their product has been adopted by 1000s of schools. In particular, PocketLab's newest sensor is the PocketLab Air which is trying to capitalize the growing interest and concern for climate change. Watch their Kickstarter campaign video below.
