Working to Ensure Children Voices are Heard!
I am Karen Reiss Medwed, Ph.D., and I am running for our Board of Education because I am passionate about all our children in our district, and want the best for all of them, because our children are the heart of the work we all do. I will ensure we do this with responsible governance, by demonstrating accountability and transparency, by supporting an excellent school district team of administrators, faculty and staff, and by being thoughtful about representing all of our children, because the metric of success is meeting the needs of every child and being responsible to all residents in our community.
Our family moved to POB four years ago, two of my children are in college now and proud POB alum; and my youngest will graduate this June. My life has always been in education, I earned by Ph.D. at NYU in education and am currently a Teaching Professor at Northeastern University. I have been involved in POB PTA for the four years we have lived in the district and serve this year as co-president of POB JFK High School PTA.
I will work to ensure children voices are heard, they are treated with respect and offered every opportunity to succeed; our children deserve the best we can bring to them, in order to bring out the best in them. Most important, when we are faced with challenging situations, we need to come together in dialogue to work together.
I will work to ensure we continue to deliver in the best ways possible outstanding learning for all the children in our district; with my unique background, I bring the robust knowledge and experience to support the excellent academics in our district for all children; and outstanding lifelong learning programs for our community members.
I am committed to the fiscal responsibility of the work of the Board of Trustees making good decisions for our schools that are also good decisions for the residents in our community
The schools in our district are ranked in the top schools on Long Island and across the country and it is our responsibility and opportunity that they continue to thrive in this manner. It is best for our children and it continues to ensure that our community is desired and sought after.
I value our community of belonging in our district, and that means that all of us, from our staff to our teachers, from our teamsters to our families to our community members, are part of the important fabric of our community and together we are committed to a culture of care, for the safety, security and fiscal responsibility that we hold for one another.
Together we will work to ensure POB continues to shine as an excellent school district with success for all of our children and with the strong sense of community it fosters.
Please vote for me on May 21st.
