Advocate for EVERY Student!
My name is Andrew Reiss, and my roots in the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District began in 2003 when my wife Michelle and I chose to make Plainview our home. Married 25 years, my wife and I raised three children who were all educated in the POB district from the K-Center through POB JFK – our older daughter, who is graduating college in a few days, and our boy and girl twins, who are college sophomores. Throughout their journeys, I stood alongside each to listen to their good days and not so good days and equally prioritized their academic growth with their social and emotional well-being.
After graduating college, I became a CPA, and after 7 years, I decided to become an attorney where I became a litigator at a large law firm. To create a better work-life balance, I joined a growing technology recruitment firm as its CFO and General Counsel. Now that my children are in college and I work remotely, I am able to dedicate the time to listen to all our stakeholders and propose new ideas that continue our District’s impressive growth. I believe that EVERY student – from Pre-K through High School – deserves the support to pursue their dreams and the skills to be extraordinary in whatever path they choose. No two students are alike, but each deserves the resources and opportunities to enjoy success on both the academic and personal levels at every step of their education.
In joining the BOE, I am driven to be a champion and advocate for each and every one of our more than 5,000 students. One of my passions is to advocate for EVERY student to feel safe at school, excited about learning, and confident and proud of who they are. I am seeking your vote to serve as a Board of Education Trustee, with the promise that I will always study the issues facing our district in an independent and unbiased manner and offer proactive suggestions. I was taught at a young age that a strong leader “listens twice as much as he speaks.” This also needs to be balanced with strong fiscal oversight in developing our budget and maintaining a steadfast focus on how the district’s funds are allocated.
Our community is fortunate to have teachers from Kindergarten to 12th grade who motivate, connect, and make a lifelong difference in the students’ lives. One of my favorite words is “legacy,” and my children still talk about those teachers with whom they had that special connection. And there were many. My candidacy is fueled by a great district that played a vital role in developing my children not only to be ready for college but also to be independent, caring young adults prepared for whatever curveball life may throw at them.
I would be honored to receive your vote on May 21st to become a Trustee of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education.
Please vote for me on May 21st
