As part of the University of Arizona's ongoing commitment to the health and safety of our community, we have been monitoring public health conditions in the local community and throughout Arizona. There has been an increase in COVID-19 cases in the community and on campus, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists the community level in Pima County as medium. Masks are highly recommended in public indoor spaces.
To help ward off another surge, we need to remain diligent and use the tools we have.
Vaccination is still the best strategy for preventing severe illness or death from COVID-19. The latest CDC recommendation states that those over 50 can get a second booster, at least four months after the first booster. Immunocompromised individuals can get three boosters. Kids ages six months and up are now approved to receive vaccinations.
Campus Health offers COVID-19 vaccines including first, second and booster doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. If you are in Tucson, you can also receive your Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccination at several locations across Pima County.
It is highly recommended that, during this summer wave, people wear masks in public indoor spaces. If you choose not to wear a mask, please respect those who do. The latest information about the University of Arizona’s recommendations is posted on the Face Coverings website.
Testing is widely available. It is important to test often, as most people with COVID-19 will have mild symptoms. If you choose to do a home test, please report the results – positive or negative – to the Pima County Health Department.
Cats TakeAway Testing allows students, employees and designated campus colleagues to pick up a PCR saline gargle test kit and drop off a sample at one of the designated locations in Tucson, Phoenix, & Sierra Vista.
If you do get infected and are at high risk due to age or because you are immunocompromised, please seek treatment from your medical provider OR go to a test to treat site, where treatments may be offered on-site if you test positive.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact (520) 621-9202 or send an email to covidhelp@arizona.edu. Please visit the University of Arizona’s COVID-19 response page for the latest updates.
