Questions used to generate the Pluralist’s Guide to Philosophy
The following explains how some (not all) of our lists have been produced. In some cases, sub-fields are so small that we generate a more open-ended conversation among Advisory Board members. But these are questions that have been used in regard to the larger categories:
Each of the following groups of questions were sent to the relevant advisory boards with a Likert scale for each question so that respondents could answer from 1-5, from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Each question was also given a “No knowledge/not applicable” category that respondents could choose. There was also a possibility for comments for each department. 95 departments were listed.
I. CONTINENTAL PHILOSOPHY:
1. In this department, a graduate student will be supported and encouraged to pursue work in continental philosophy.
2. In this department, a graduate student will find a community of scholars with whom they can share their interest in pursuing continental philosophy.
3. In this department a graduate student will be able to find mentors without difficulty to guide their work in continental philosophy.
4. In this department, a graduate student will be able to write a state of the art dissertation in continental philosophy.

1. In this department, a graduate student will be supported and encouraged to pursue work in feminist philosophy.

4. In this department, a graduate student will be able to write a state of the art dissertation in feminist philosophy.
