Steps to get a Michigan Real Estate Salesperson License 

• Complete a 40-hour state approved Real Estate Prelicensure Course

• Successfully pass the state administered exam

• Find a licensed broker

• Apply for license with the State of Michigan and pay any necessary fees

Steps to get a Michigan Real Estate Broker License 

• Practice as a Real Estate Salesperson for a minimum of 3 years

• Complete 90 hours of state approved broker courses

• Apply for license with the State of Michigan and pay any necessary fees

To Renew a Michigan Real Estate Salesperson or Broker License

• Complete 18 hours for each 3 year licensing cycle

• Complete 2 hours of legal update every year (counts toward the required 18 hours) before the day of your expiration date

  • • i.e. if you license expires 03/28/2025 you need to complete legal update before March 28 each year

• Complete 1 hour of fair housing every year (counts toward the required 18 hours) before the day of your expiration date

  • • This requirement initiated in February 2024.

• Prior to your license expiring, complete the renewal application and pay any necessary fees
