Main concepts

• Economically active population is the fraction of a population that is either employed or actively seeking employment.
• Population can be classified on three different criteria: age, location and economic activity.
• Urban population is a population of 10,000 or more inhabitants.
• There are advantages and disadvantages of living in a city.
• The absolute population of an area is the number of inhabitants who live in that area.
• Natural increase is the difference between the number of births and deaths.
• Actual increase is the natural increase plus the immigrants minus the emigrants.
• The population density is the cocient between the absolute population and the extension of the area in square kilometres.
• Life expectancy is the average number of years that people live.
• The population density of Spain is about 93 inhabitants per square kilometre.
• A census is a survey of all the population in the country. It's organised every 10 years.

• The formula for the rate of natural increase is:

(Crude birth rate − Crude death rate) / 10, where birth and death rates are in per thousand.

The result is the rate of natural increase in percentage form.

• Example:

Madagascar's crude birth rate (37.89) minus the crude death rate (7.97) is 29.92.

Divide that by 10 and the result is 2.992%, Madagascar's rate of natural increase

• Actual population increase is calculated by the formula:
• CR = CN (Nacimientos - Defunciones) + SM (Inmigrantes - Emigrantes)
• Population density is the number of people per unit of area, usually quoted per square kilometer.
• The world's population is about 7,500,000,000 inhabitants.
• The Earth's area (including land and water) us 510,000,000 km² .
• Half of the Earth's land mass is inhospitable (deserts and high mountains).
• Mongolia is the least densely populated country in the world.

• Life expectancy: It is the average number of years that people leave. It is about 81 years in Spain.
• Natural increase: En el primer semestre del año 2017 murieron en España 32.132 personas más de las que nacieron. (There was a natural decrease.)
• Actual increase: La diferencia entre inmigración e inmigración ha sido positiva en el primer semestre de 2017. (There was an actual increase.)
• La población residente en España se situó en 46.528.966 habitantes a 1 de enero de 2017, lo que supuso un aumento de 88.867 personas respecto a comienzos de 2016.
