Plants that are frequently visited by honey bees in my neighborhood in the North Seattle area, Washington, USA, including many foreign species that outgrow native plants. Please refrain from planting noxious weeds, as indicated in the rightmost column.
Plants are listed in (approximate) order of bloom. Click ↕ in the table header to sort data alphabetically.
Column 3: Blooming periods are based on observations from 2017–2024. "All year" excludes times with snow cover. Plants blooming from fall to spring may lose flowers in cold weather. Open-ended periods indicate flowers may be lost during summer droughts or persist until frost.
Columns 4 & 5: Pollen colors are derived from photos of pollen-carrying bees. Bumble bee pollen colors may be less accurate due to their lower floral fidelity. Click HEX color codes to view reference photos. If appropriate bee photos were unavailable, pollen chunks collected for microscopic analysis were photographed.
Column 6: Links to microscopic analysis are included, with related plants grouped together.
Column 7: Status: N (native), F (feral/naturalized), C (cultivated), noxA-C (Class A-C noxious weed as per the 2023 Washington State Noxious Weed List).
