If you’re hypermobile, your joints already move beyond the typical range. That doesn’t mean you need more stretching or deeper massage.
In fact, too much pressure or aggressive stretching may irritate the muscles and joints.
A sports massage for someone with hypermobility should focus more on:
Reducing muscle tension
Improving body awareness
Supporting movement and recovery
Avoiding excessive pressure around unstable joints
For example, instead of forcing a hypermobile shoulder into a deeper stretch, the therapist may work on the surrounding muscles to help you move more comfortably and stay controlled.
Hypermobility doesn’t mean “no massage.” It means the massage needs to be smarter and more personalised.
