Academic dishonesty shall be dealt with according to College policies, including receiving an “F” on assignment, exam or quiz, dismissal from the class, a failing grade in the course, referral to the dean or other penalties. As a minimum, a student will receive a "zero score" for all assignments, exams, papers, quizzes, etc. and activities involved and student activity will be reported to the dean. This applies not only to the individual cheating, but also anyone allowing another student to copy from their test or assignment, or assisting in the cover-up of this academic dishonesty process. On a test, a student must work independently which means not using notes, electronics, copying from other students’ papers, etc. Students frequently work together during exercises and each student is expected to contribute significantly to these collaborative efforts. Come see me if you need clarification. Serious cases of academic dishonesty may lead to academic probation or expulsion from College. Please see “Academic Honesty” in your College Catalog.
CHEATING: Using any materials or devices or strategies which provide undue advantage on any exam, assignment, activity or other method of assessment for a course. This includes, but is not limited to, copying content from the Web, textbooks or other sources, buying content, reusing materials produced in other courses, or any other system of inappropriate "help". Exams are to be measures of what YOU, as an individual, have learned.
COLLABORATION ONLY WHEN APPROVED: Working together on projects, papers, exams, or other forms of assessment which are to be completed individually is considered cheating.
PLAGIARISM: Taking anyone else's work as one's own. Presenting another's words, ideas, forms of expression, materials, or labor without proper citation, referencing, and declaration that this material originated outside the student's own work.
COMPLICITY IN ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Intentionally helping or attempting to help another to commit an act of academic dishonesty. The policy on academic dishonesty, as well of examples of the acts listed above, appear in the Student Handbook.
