In all of my paintings, I use acrylic paints to keep a freshness and transparency through colour. By working on larger scales, I can use brush-sizes to my advantage to create impressive swathes of colour and emotion to impact the viewer.
Angel (120x160cm)
The Mermaid (97x137cm)
Many of my paintings focus on the transformation of the humans in relation to bodies of water.
For example, the first work, 'Angel', shows the reflections distorting their body to create a hypnotic angel figure emerging.
The second piece, 'The Mermaid', takes inspiration from 19th century depictions of mermaids. I aimed to show their dual-nature in a modern setting.
Laumė 2 (122x40cm)
This pair of paintings relate to the Lithuanian sirent spirit, Laumė. She is dressed in white flowing clothes and the darker depths imply a sense of danger in the waters.
Laumė 2 (122x80cm)
Submerged (90x90cm)
Using perspex, in this third piece I wanted to mimic the appearance of the surface of water.
A painting based on nostalgia and the themes of attachment. It was made in parallel to the sculpture. The blooming effect was created through paper stencils and white spray paint to mimic the look of light in a camera lens and a hazy memory.
In the same series, I painted this old photo to create a sense of warmth in a softer, more textured style.
