At Pine View Farm, our work with heritage poultry is rooted in preservation — but also in progress. Creating new color varieties within a heritage breed helps strengthen the breed’s future by expanding interest, improving genetic diversity, and encouraging more people to participate in conservation.
New colors bring fresh attention to old breeds, drawing in homesteaders, exhibitors, and small breeders who may not have discovered them otherwise. Thoughtfully developed color projects also help maintain wide, healthy gene pools, ensuring the breed remains resilient and productive for generations to come.
Our goal is never to change what makes a heritage breed special. Instead, we aim to enhance and support it — creating birds that honor their history while offering new possibilities for the show hall and the homestead. Each color project is approached with care, structure, and respect for the breed standard, helping us contribute to both preservation and responsible advancement.
