Heritage Java Chickens

Pine View Farm is proud to raise heritage Java chickens, one of America’s oldest and most historically significant breeds. We keep both Black and Mottled Javas, maintaining strong, traditional lines and helping preserve a breed that has played an important role in American poultry history. We’ve been raising Javas since 2021 and occasionally dabble in showing them at APA‑sanctioned shows throughout central Indiana. 

The Java chicken dates back to the early 1800s, making it one of the oldest American breeds still in existence. Known for their hardiness, calm temperament, and excellent foraging ability, Javas were foundational in the development of several modern breeds. Their steady egg production and balanced dual‑purpose qualities made them a staple on early homesteads. Today, they’re considered a heritage conservation breed, valued for their genetics, temperament, and historical importance. 

Our Javas are raised with the same hands‑on care and daily interaction as the rest of our animals. They’re dependable layers, excellent foragers, and bring a classic, old‑fashioned charm to the farm.
