Black Elk, a Lakota holy man, warrior, and medicine man, said, "The Holy Land is everywhere" to convey that sacredness is not limited to one place. It includes any place that people have recognized and mythologized as home. Black Elk's statement means that the world and all its parts come from the same divine source. Each part of creation depends on, affects, and participates in the life of the others and we should care for each other.
With open hearts, we leave the holy confines of our church and local community, travel through many holy lands and arrive in the holy land of the Pine Ridge Reservation. There, we will immerse in this sacred space, opening our hearts to the gifts of community, interconnectedness, respect and love.
