Piericngs are foreign objects trapped in open wounds. The body will either accept the piercing and encapsulate the metal in scar tissue called Fistula. Or the body will reject and push the jewllery out of the body. Think of it like your body trying to push out a splinter.
It is important to know that any piercing is not guaranteed, it is a foreign object in the body, everyone reacts differently.
How do I know my piercing is rejecting?
At the beginning you will start to notice the tissue over the jewellery will become thinner and thinner. This is usually accompanied by irritation bumps. But not all irritation bumps means the piercing is rejecting. Rejection can be caused by catching, snagging, sleeping on it and low quality jewellery.
What causes rejection?
The most common is being the lack of tissie to support the piercings correctly. Either your anatomy isnt correct or it was pierced too shallow/incorrecly. Other causes for rejection but not limited to:
Low quality jewellery
Improper fitted jewellery
Incorrect jewellery
A bad snag or tear
Incorrect anatomy
It is important your piercer knows how to work with different anatomy. Being pierced incorrectly or when you don’t have the correcrt anatomy can cause excessive scarring to the area.
Unfortunatly once rejection starts there isnt much you can do. It is best to take the jewellery out and try again once it heals. If the rejection is caused by incorrect jewellery, you can try switching to proper fitted and quality jewellery. But there is no guarantee.
