INTRODUCTION
All Malaysian universities and matriculations compete in the yearly PIITRAM competition, which is run by the Asasi Council. One of the best innovation platforms is PIITRAM 2024, which fosters and displays the skills of academics and students at the foundation and matriculation levels in the teaching and learning (T&L) domains of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
PIITRAM2024 provides a platform for educators, innovators, and students from various backgrounds to channel new ideas related to STEAM and further enhance their creativity and innovation ideas to the next level. This platform is offered in line with the transformation of our national education that now emphasizes the importance of STEAM education to produce highly skilled and innovative human capital.
OBJECTIVES
Create a platform where Malaysia's foundation and matriculation centers can exchange innovative ideas with the aim of enhancing quality and output.
Encourage foundation and matriculation centers, particularly those involved in STEAM, to be creative, innovative, and a sense of creation.
Enhance the comprehension of foundation and matriculation center citizens on the STEAM idea so that they can use it in their everyday life.
HISTORY OF PIITRAM
This annual innovation competition, which is often looked forward to by tertiary level institutions, was realized of its idea through ‘Majlis Dekan Asasi Malaysia’ with the intention to provide a platform to tighten the bonds and share knowledge among foundation and matriculation institutions in Malaysia.
The first PIITRAM competition began its appearance in 2021 with UMT (Universiti Malaysia Terengganu) being the first host for this annual event. Although the said year was still under the constraints of Covid-19, the committee still managed to run the competition via online on Webex, thanks to the invention of technology. Later in 2022, ‘Pusat Asasi Pertahanan UPNM’ (Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia) became the second host for PIITRAM with another virtual competition and followed by UPM’s (Universiti Putra Malaysia) Foundation Centre in 2023.
With Covid-19 being under controlled in the year 2023, the first physical competition was able to be made which was seen as a much more interesting experience by many participants and presenters. This experience would hopefully be continued in the next PIITRAM competition which will be hosted by ‘Pusat Tamhidi’, USIM (Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia) and follow suit by other future institutions as the coming hosts.
