Keeping Oakville Livable

The Town of Oakville is responsible for local planning and development approvals, as regulated by provincial policy and the Ontario Building Code. This role puts town Council at the forefront of the housing crisis in Oakville. They balance pressures of growth while preserving existing housing stock and mix.

Keeping Oakville Livable through:

• Protecting the Character of Existing Neighbourhoods.

• Ensuring the town Implements Sustainable Development Standards.

• Ensuring a Mix of Housing Types Throughout the Town such as rentals and senior facilities.

• Increasing Affordable Housing, rentals (e.g. senior, public, co-op, community housing, etc.).

• Requiring Growth to Occur in Identified nodes and Corridors (such as around GO stations or Trafalgar Road) by expediting zoning changes to accelerate the building of affordable and attainable housing in accordance to the "Livable Oakville Plan".

• Updating the "Livable Oakville Plan" as soon as possible.
