Here comes the fun part of your job! You get to test your prediction to see which prism will hold the most popcorn (has the largest volume)!
You will need to figure out how to determine which prism holds the most, or if they all have the same volume. Using marshmallows (popcorn is just too messy), you are going to fill up your popcorn prisms to see if your predictions are correct.
- Explain how you will figure out which rectangular prism has the larger volume. Now try it!
- How did your method work? What modifications should you make to be more efficient? For the triangular prisms, try your new method and see how it works.
- Now how will you compare the amount of "popcorn" in the rectangular prism with the triangular prism? Explain what you will do to determine which prism has the largest and smallest volumes, and which ones are 2nd and 3rd largest.
- Was your prediction correct? How do you know? (what evidence do you have?)
- Why do you think the prisms hold different amounts of "popcorn" (volume)?
