Introduction
The department of Physics was established since the inception of the College in 1961 and offered a two-year general degree course in this subject along with the allied ones. In 1995, the department was permitted to offer three-year honours degree course in Physics. With the extension of the tenure of the general course by the University of Calcutta from two to three years, the department is now able to teach both 4-year major (with / without research) and 3-year multidisciplinary degree programme in Physics for students admitted in the B.Sc. course.
