Students are admitted strictly on the basis of merit through online mode. For admission in the last academic session, merit score was calculated as the sum of the score in best four subjects in the qualifying (10+2 level) examination, added to the marks obtained in Physics and Mathematics.

Class tests (normal and open-book) are conducted by the respective teachers besides the end-Semester examinations. The answer scripts of class tests are shown to the students for clarification of the deduction of marks in the examinations. Any possible controversy in checking the scripts is cleared on the spot.

The departmental library consists of about 150 books, consisting of mostly those borrowed from the central library of the College, as well as the free sample copies gifted to the faculty members. Most of them are useful for the honours students of this department.

Students can borrow two books at a time against entry of the details in a register. The books need to be returned to the departmental library within a month.
