🎓About the University
Established in 1969 under the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, the University of Jammu is accredited with an ‘A++’ Grade by NAAC. Nestled at the foothills of the Trikuta mountains along the river Tawi, it is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer, contributing to regional and national development. The University provides quality education, fosters holistic student growth through academics, sports, and cultural activities, and emphasizes democratic values. The University of Jammu is located 3 km from the railway station and 6 km from the airport. Regular transportation services are available from both the railway station and the airport.
🏛️About the Department
Established in 1967 under the University of Jammu and Kashmir and incorporated into the University of Jammu in 1969, the Department of Physics is a premier center for teaching and research. It offers four specializations in frontier areas, supported by state-of-the-art research and postgraduate laboratories. Research activities are of international standard with active national and global collaborations resulting in quality publications and academic exchanges. The Master’s program follows the UGC-recommended curriculum, as per NEP – 2020 enriched with cutting-edge research topics such as nanotechnology, quantum chromodynamics, heavy-ion physics, solid-state materials, and communication electronics. Pre-Ph.D Course includes Research Methodology and Ethics. The department emphasizes innovative teaching with IT-enabled classrooms, seminar halls, and a FIST and RUSA supported computer lab, complemented by high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, and INFLIBNET access. Eminent scientists are regularly invited for lectures to expose students to global advancements, while observance of national and international days fosters scientific spirit and holistic development.

Jammu is one of the main cities in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It serves as the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir and is the headquarters as well as the largest city of the Jammu district. Situated on the banks of the river Tawi, Jammu covers an area of about 240 km² (93 sq mi) and is surrounded by the Himalayas to the north and the northern plains to the south. It is the second-most populous city in the union territory and is popularly known as the “City of Temples” for its numerous ancient temples and Hindu shrines.
