The principle purpose of this exhibition is to present a visual exploration of the relationship between grace and power. In my opinion power is something that is merely a concept which is given meaning by the way a person feels or makes other people feel. Through the exhibition I wanted to present the concept of power in an alternative way. Power is often associated with harshness, firmness, and other qualities which do not convey a sense of grace and elegance. The exhibition is meant to show an audience that grace and power not only can coexist, but they do in each person’s life in the most subtle ways. When an audience is faced with my exhibition, the intention is for them to feel overwhelmed with beauty and grace. However, the more one looks at the pieces the more one realizes that yes in fact they are stunningly beautiful, but each one also conveys a sense of power which is subtly conveyed through facial expression, positioning, and the external elements of the piece. The entire structure for the exhibition is meant to be extravagant and was created with the intention to stand out and force the viewer to have to look upward at the pieces, thus allowing each piece to convey a sense of royalty and the idea that these subjects are larger-than-life.
