At Port Huron Northern High School, we offer the following ensembles for students to be a part of:
Cadet Band (9th Grade): Cadet Band is primarily composed of 9th-grade students and focuses on advancing the skills acquired in middle school. Students work on developing a mature tone and technique through a variety of repertoire. Students who were not previously in middle school band or did not take band in grades 6 through 8 are also placed in this ensemble.
Wind Ensemble (10th-12th Grade): Wind Symphony is our premier auditioned ensemble, performing challenging high school and collegiate-level repertoire. Known for its musicality and precision, the Wind Symphony has performed at the Michigan Music Conference and regularly collaborates with guest artists.
Symphonic Band (10th-12th Grade: Our non-audition Symphonic Band is open to 10th-12th graders. As our largest concert ensemble, it has a tradition of earning Excellent and Superior ratings at MSBOA festivals. Students perform a mix of classical and contemporary works.
Jazz Band (9th-12th Grade): An extracurricular ensemble that meets before school, Jazz Band offers students the chance to explore jazz, blues, and swing. Members perform at school concerts and community events.
