The Planetary Health in Medicine Research Training Fellowship (PHMF) is a free, six-week youth summer program in San Diego, California focused on planetary health, environmental justice, and careers in medicine and public health.

Over the course of the program, fellows will:

• Learn the science behind climate change, environmental degradation (ex. air pollution and flooding) and their effects on human health

• Explore environmental justice and why some communities bear a greater burden of environmental harm

• Conduct original group research and present their findings

• Meet physicians, scientists, public health professionals, and community organizers working to address these issues

• Discover career pathways in medicine, public health, science, and advocacy

This is an opportunity for local youth (ages 16-25) to see themselves as researchers and changemakers and to develop skills and connections that will serve them well beyond the summer.

This fellowship is part of a University of California San Diego research study assessing how group-based learning influences mental well-being and environmental self-efficacy among youth.
