We were born in a dark place
Where all we could see
Were shadows that were cast on the wall.
We were born in a dark place,
Where no one is free
To escape the cold land of nightfall
But one day a Brave one,
Who few understood,
Climbed out of the home we had known
And one day a brave one
When few thought he could,
Walked out of the cave on his own
He stood in the light
And it burned at his eyes
Which knew only the dark until then
He stood in the light
And looked at the skies
And he learned about where he had been
The sun warmed his face,
And he soon learned to see
And by seeing he soon learned to know
The sun warmed his face
As he looked at the trees
And he understood what he must show
He returned to the dark place
Where everyone lived
And most of us called him a liar
He returned to the dark place
And we tried to forgive
The strange tales that he told by the fire
But slowly by slowly
He changed a few minds
And some young ones followed his lead
And slowly by slowly
They saw they’d been blind
And the children of darkness were freed
The elders were angry
They imprisoned the brave one
They said he was changing the youth
The elders were angry
And they killed the brave one
For telling the people the truth
But slowly by slowly,
More people of dark
Worked to climb into the day
And slowly by slowly
They began to embark
On following the Brave One’s way
Now we live in the light
Or so it may seem,
But some of this world still is dim
Now we live in the light,
But still some of us dream,
Of climbing out of the cave we are in
coming soon!
