Tournament Rules

This tournament will operate using NAQT's standard rules for gameplay. Teams with questions about these rules are encouraged to contact the tournament director for more information.

Tournament Date and Location

The Philly Invitational Quizbowl Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 27, at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The tournament will take place in the Academic Center on campus.

Registration

Teams may register for this tournament on the NAQT website. (Note: The person registering must be signed up with a free account on NAQT's website and must add an affiliation for the school they are registering for. Contact NAQT support if you are having trouble with the website or your account. Contact Alex Dzurick if you are unsure about how to sign up or which options to select.)

Getting to Campus

Harcum's campus is located directly behind SEPTA's Bryn Mawr regional rail station, making it easier for teams without a vehicle to access the tournament site. For teams who are driving, there is plenty of parking available on campus near the Academic Center. For GPS purposes, enter "750 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA" and follow the directions to campus.

Schedule

8:00 AM - Registration opens (room TBD)

8:30 AM - Opening meeting and rules review (room TBD)

9:00 AM - Games begin

The ending of the tournament will depend on the number of registered teams, but barring any major emergencies we plan to wrap up all aspects of the tournament, including any required finals matches, before 4:00 PM.

Lunch

At an appropriate mid-day time, we will break for lunch. The timing of this will depend on the number of teams in attendance and the number of rounds remaining before any playoff matches, so that we may be able to re-bracket over lunch and avoid a later delay.

There are several options within a few minute drive of Harcum's campus, including fast food, casual dining and pizza options.

We plan to offer a free catered lunch for faculty members or administrators accompanying their teams to the tournament. This will give us an opportunity to network and discuss how to further the available opportunities for quizbowl competition in the region.

Staffing

The Mid-Atlantic region features many of the country's most active collegiate and high school quizbowl teams. The staff for this tournament will be recruited from among this corps of highly experienced readers and scorekeepers. At this time, it does not appear that campuses will need to provide any volunteer staff to the tournament.
