Eligibility

School/Institution Eligibility:

The full text of NAQT's school eligibility rules for this event can be found here. Generally speaking, any accredited institution which grants associates degrees is eligible to send a team to this event. Schools which offer both associates and bachelors degrees may also compete, but all players on the team must be pursuing associates degrees and meet all the criteria for individuals below.

Schools with multiple campuses or branch campuses may choose to organize separate teams for each campus or compete together as a single institution, but typically such choices would apply for an entire competition year (August-July).

Individual Eligibility:

The full text of NAQT's individual eligibility rules for this event can be found here. Usually, any student who is actively enrolled in and taking classes toward an associates degree program at an eligible school may compete in this event. However, some criteria which may render a student ineligible include, but are not limited to:

  • Holding any other post-secondary degree (associates, bachelors, or higher)
  • Certain amounts of prior experience in intercollegiate quizbowl competition
  • Having previously competed on the same question set being played at this tournament (NAQT's IS-184A set)
  • Concurrent affiliation with a high school quizbowl team (unless approved in advance by NAQT)

Eligibility Responsibility:

Players and their schools are responsible for self-monitoring their eligibility to compete at this event. Failure to meet these rules may result in forfeiture of any results, standings, or awards gained. Teams should direct any questions about eligibility directly to NAQT at eligibility@naqt.com as soon as possible.
