The SPCs, together with the VHWs, educated community members and established community-based health promotional teams whose main purpose was to promote the prevention and management of factors predisposing individuals to stroke. The SPCs and the Village Health Workers agreed on the inclusion criteria. However, the project mainly targeted members of the community with factors predisposing them to stroke. The health education and community-based health promotion activities were carried out at different village and churches. The activities and lessons were conducted in Sesotho, which was the ideal language for the VHWs and members of the community. Short messages (SMS) were also sent to members of the community from time to time to remind them of key concepts in stroke prevention and management. The local radio station (Molisa ea Molemo) was used to complement the information given to health promotional team members and the rest of the community.Â
