Biography

Diego Alberto Mercado-Ravell was born in Mexico City. He received his B.S. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the Universidad Panamericana in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering option Mechatronics from CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico City,  and the Ph.D. in Automation, Embedded Systems and Robotics from the University of Technology of Compiègne, France, with the thesis titled "Autonomous Navigation and Teleoperation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles using Monocular Vision". Dr. Mercado has held post-doctoral positions at the Mechanical and Aerospace Department at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, USA, and at the French-Mexican Laboratory on Computer Science and Control UMI-LAFMIA 3175 at CINVESTAV Mexico. He is currently full-time professor at CIMAT-Zacatecas, in Mexico, and member of the national research system (SNI), level I since 2018. His research topics include robotics, modeling and control, unmanned aerial/underwater vehicles, autonomous navigation, real-time embedded applications, state estimation, data fusion, computer vision and deep learning applications.
