Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year!
The earliest records discovered at Punta Gorda Methodist dates back to 1942. The population of the school at that time was approximately 39 students. The surnames at that times included names like Godfrey, Ledlan, Range, Wiltshire, Vaire, Gillett, Bowden, Montero, Duncan, Young, Chavarria, Lord, Chee and Brown. These names suggest that even though Punta Gorda was basically a Garifuna Town that Punta Gorda Methodist School was mostly populated by Creoles, East Indians and Chinese.
Today, students who attend the school are East Indians, Maya Indians, Ketchi Indians, Creoles and a small percentage of Garinagus. While some of these pupils live in town, others travel from as far as Forest Home village, Cattle Landing and Hopeville.
Punta Gorda Methodist School is committed to providing our students and their families with a strong Christian foundation, empowering them to become responsible and exemplary role models. With the support of parents, community members, and other stakeholders, we strive to be a leader in Belize's elementary education system. Our mission is to create and maintain a nurturing learning environment that fosters the holistic development of each student. We aim for our students to reach their fullest potential and become influential leaders dedicated to the betterment of our local, national, and regional multi-cultural society.
