🏠Hosting

Fabulous, it was a great experience for both the adults and kids in my house!

There is a lot going on in our family.  Our children are involved in a lot of activities, and space is also tight at home.  Can we just send our son or daughter on the trip?

🤔In the end, it is of course you who will make the decision to open your home to a new family member and host a student from Germany.  However, this is a valuable and unique opportunity for your son or daughter, and there are definite benefits to making it work.  

1. 👭👫👬Very often,  as bonds of friendship are formed, there are tears at the end of your time hosting a German student.  They really do become a new member of your family.  

2. 🔁The students are coming over here to be immersed in English and in American culture, including the day-to-day culture of your family.  This gives them a far more personal insight into the life of an American family. They are not just here for sight-seeing.  

3. 🫱🫲You can coordinate with other families to organize events and outings during free time.

4. 💤If you do not have a spare room, or even an extra bed, you might consider letting your own child sleep on an air mattress or couch for this short time, and let the German student have their bed.  It may not be ideal, but a little short-term discomfort in exchange for rich experiences, and the stories you will create together that will last a lifetime; that is more valuable than you can imagine.
