Kenmoor Middle School

Design

How much field space will be left after construction (will the old building remain or eventually be removed)? Students play soccer & basketball all year round, not softball.

There will be a multi-purpose field to the right of the building by the softball field. There is additional green space that will be kept open and programming will be determined by the school.

Where is the stage?

The stage in this design is in the gymnasium, making the space a gymnatorium.

Will this be a green school? What environmentally friendly aspects will be built?

This building will be designed and built to be LEED Silver certified. However, it will not be submitted to the USGBC (US Green Building), rather, it will be monitored by Prince George's County as a third party that will review and confirm compliance. This school will include the usual scope of environmentally green environments. It will be water and energy efficient. During construction, materials will be recycled.

How many levels? Will there be a basement?

The academic core is two stories. The gym, food services and other common areas are heightened two stories. There is no basement level.

What is being added to the new Kenmoor other than it becoming a new school? Will there be more classrooms or specific new upgrades?

The new Kenmoor will be state-of-the-art and will be equipped with new systems and furnishing. There are dedicated rooms for specials, like music and art. There will be a multi-purpose field and additional green space for the school to decide how to utilize. Outdoor classroom areas and so much more will be new to the Kenmoor School community.

Will the new building hold more students than the current building?

Yes. The new school can accommodate 1,200 students.

When can we see pictures of the inside of the proposed building?

Interior and exterior renderings are available within the first Kenmoor town hall PowerPoint presentation uploaded to the program website: www.pgcpsblueprintschools.com.

Construction Logistics

What will the construction noise levels be during the day?

We will be compliant with county code and ordinances and ensure that we're a good neighbor.

Parking/Transportation

Where will the parking lot be? Will the current building be demolished?

The passenger car parking lot is located to the left of the building, between the building and the multipurpose field. Short-term parking/loop access is available to buses to the north of the school. The current building will not be demolished.

Safety/Security

During an evacuation of the building, such as a fire drill, where will the students who are in the back of the building (closest to Kenmoor Early Childhood) assemble? Over 20 classrooms and the gymnasium use the area behind the school for assembly which will be fenced off for the construction project.

We will work closely with school administration to ensure routines stay as consistent as possible. Student safety is of the upmost importance. We will do all that is necessary to comply with all school regulations.

School Program

Will the old school still be used after the new school is completed?

Use of the old school is a long-term asset plan of PGCPS currently being developed by Capitol Programs.
