History

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

Our chapter was started with an enthusiastic group of individuals representing the diversity of our community. Our national affiliation was granted June of 2020 in the midst of a national pandemic but even with adverse circumstances for a start up, we were able to have virtual training, board meetings and support meetings.

Our first fundraiser was a anti-racism sign campaign to fund a scholarship for an undergraduate black student. As a result of this campaign we gained a good bit of local media exposure to create awareness for our local chapter in our community. Additional awareness has been gained by members painting rainbow rocks and placing them through our community. We have formed a strong board and officers to guide us in the upcoming years and we have developed excellent resources throughout the community to facilitate educational opportunities. We have just begun our in person Support Sessions and are planning many exciting events. Our first PRIDE Celebration was held at Bull City Ciderworks on June 30th of 2021. Despite all of the struggles with the pandemic PFLAG awarded two $2000 scholarships to upcoming college students.
